【摘要】:Controlofwatercontentisoftenimportantincontrollingtheperformanceofpaintandpaintingredients,anditiscriticalincontrollingvolatileorganiccompound(VOC)content.PaintmaterialsareofteninsolubleincommonKarlFischersolventssuchasmethanol.Pyridinehasbeenfoundtobeanearlyuniversalsolventforthesematerials;however,theKarlFischerreactionistooslowinthatsolventatroomtemperature.Tospeeditup,1-ethylpiperidineisaddedat5%asabuffer,orx201C;catalyst.x201D;Fornonpyridine-basedreagents,anumberofdifferentsolventsystemsareavailabletoincreasesolubilityandtominimizeinterferencesfromketonesandaldehydes.1.1Thistestmethodisapplicabletoallpaintsandpaintmaterials,includingresins,monomers,andsolvents,withtheexceptionofaldehydesandcertainactivemetals,metaloxides,andmetalhydroxides.Whiletheevaluationwaslimitedtopigmentedproductscontainingamountsofwaterinthe30to70%range,thereisreasontobelievethathigherandlowerconcentrationscanbedeterminedbythistestmethod.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly..1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.SpecifichazardstatementsaregiveninSection7.
