【摘要】:Thistestmethod,byacloserapproachtoenginecoolingsystemconditions,providesbetterevaluationandselectivescreeningofenginecoolantsthanispossiblefromglasswaretesting(TestMethodD1384).Theimprovementisachievedbycontrolledcirculationofthecoolant,bytheuseofautomotivecoolingsystemcomponents,andbyagreaterratioofmetalsurfaceareatocoolantvolume.Althoughthistestmethodprovidesimproveddiscrimination,itcannotconclusivelypredictsatisfactorycorrosioninhibitionandservicelife.Ifgreaterassuranceofsatisfactoryperformanceisdesired,itshouldbeobtainedfromfull-scaleenginetests(TestMethodD2758)andfromfieldtestinginactualservice(PracticeD2847).SignificanceandinterpretationofthetestanditslimitationsarediscussedfurtherinAppendixX1.IfthistestmethodisusedasaqualificationtestforSpecificationD3306andSpecificationD4985,therecommendedcomponentslistedinSection5shallbeused.Ifitisnotbeingusedforsuchqualificationpurposes,thensuitablesubstitutioncomponentsmaybeused,ifagreeduponbetweenthecontractingparties.1.1Thistestmethodevaluatestheeffectofacirculatingenginecoolantonmetaltestspecimensandautomotivecoolingsystemcomponentsundercontrolled,essentiallyisothermallaboratoryconditions.1.2Thistestmethodspecifiestestmaterial,coolingsystemcomponents,typeofcoolant,andcoolantflowconditionsthatareconsideredtypicalofcurrentautomotiveuse.1.3Thevaluesstatedinfoot-pound-secondunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparentheses(SIunits)areapproximateequivalentsforinformationonly.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.SpecificprecautionarystatementsaregiveninSection6.
